Vintage Boats:Ready to go the VII Trophy Principality of Monaco in Venice – Ready to go the VII Trophy Principality of Monaco in Venice BNL-BNP Paribas Private Banking Cup

The timeless charm of vintage boats returns to Venice on Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 June with the “VII Principality of Monaco Trophy the Vintage Sails in Lagoon BNL-BNP PA-RIBAS PRIVATE BANKING CUP”, event promoted by Anna Licia Balzan, Honorary Consul of Monaco in Venice and the Department of Tourism and Conferences of Monaco in Milan.

For the fifth year the Trophy, second stage of the “Coppa A.I.V.E. of the Adriatic “2019,  only for classic boats and is organized under the direction of the Yacht Club Venezia and the Portodi-Mare Sailing Club.

There are two races to be played, Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 June. On Sundays, moreover, the public will be able to assist from the shores to a suggestive sailing in the waters of the San Marco basin. At regattas, which will be run applying the C.I.M. (Comité International de la Méditerranée), there will be famous classic boats including Santa Maria Nicopeja, built in Normandy in 1901 and restored by the Luca Casaril shipyard in Venice, today it is one of the oldest boats still sailing in Mediterranean. The 19-meter Presque Isle schooner, built in the USA in the 1950s based on a project by the Herreshoff shipyard, instead belonged to the famous actor Yul Brinner. Among the most successful boats there is also Al Na’Ir III, built in 1964 by the Carlini shipyard of Rimini based on the Sparkman & Stephens project.

Serenity will be the boat to beat instead. Serenity, a Sea-Serpent class of 1936, runs in fact to reconquer the Adriatic AIVE seasonal Cup, already won three times in 2016, 2017 and 2018. Also present was Naïf, a sloop built in 1973 for Raul Gardini from the Carlini shipyard of Rimini based on a project by the American Dick Carter. Since 2004 he belongs to his son Ivan, who in 2012 won the Panerai category trophy. Among the other boats there is the one-tonner Mozart by Pasquale Landolfi that with the name of Brava has obtained an absolute third place at the Sardinia Cup. Among the members there are also Silvica, Gilla, Isabella, Shahrazad, Attica and the Bermuda ketch Anatina of 1970 that in the past has made several Atlantic crossings and participates for the first time in the Trophy.

The absolute news of this seventh edition is the illustrious participation of the Italian Navy with the prestigious Sagittario boat, a Sciarrelli launched in 1972 in the Mariano Craglietto yards of Trieste and which participated in the same year in the Transatlantic solo regatta and in several Middle Sea Race.
