Namib win the VII Trofeo Principality of Monaco in Venice BNL-BNP Paribas Private Banking Cup
Venice, 30 June 2019. The Namib boat, a Bermudian sloop designed and built by the Ligurian shipyard Sangermani in 1967, won both the class category and the Overall during the VII Principality of Monaco Trophy in Venice the Vintage Sails in Laguna Cup BNL-BNP Pari-bas Private Banking, an event promoted by Anna Licia Balzan, Honorary Consul of Monaco in Venice and the Department of Tourism and Conferences of Monaco in Milan. The 11.57 meter long boat recently moved to the Adriatic from the
Tyrrhenian Sea, where in 2014 it had already won the prestigious Panerai Trophy in the “Classic” category.
Namib, of the shipowner Pietro Bianchi, defended the colors of the Yacht Club Parma.
The Trophy,organized in collaboration with the Venice Yacht Club and under the patronage of A.I.V.E., the Italian Association of Vintage Sails.
Twenty-five participating yachts, divided into four categories (Epoca, Classici ‘A’, Classici ‘B’ and Spirit of Tradition) that took part in this event created with the aim of promoting the Principality of Monaco in terms
of sport, tourism and cultural. Regatta Judges Emilia Barbieri and Gianfranco Frizzarin of the Sailing Club Portodimare.
Serenity of 1936, which defended the colors of the Circolo Velico Conegliano, established itself among the ‘Epoca category’, preceding Pia of 1947 and Santa Maria di Nicopeja of 1901. A winner among the Classics
‘A’ was Naïf, the sloop built in 1973 for Raul Gardini from the Carlini shipyard of Rimini based on a project by the American Dick Carter. The boat ran for the Circolo Velico Ravennate and preceded in the ranking
other glories of sailing such as Al Na’Ir III of 1964 and Sagittarius of the Navy. Among the Classics ‘B’ the victory went to Namib, who won both races in its category preceding Nembo II (Yacht Club Adriaco) and Al Na ’Ir II (Yacht Club Hannibal). Finally, in the Spirit of Tradition category the victory went to the One Tonner Mozart, which preceded Isabella and Agos.
This VII edition of the Trophy, second stop of the “Coppa A.I.V.E. of the Adriatic “2019, saw the participation of the Italian Navy with the” Sagittario “Sailing Navy boat now assigned to the Sailing Section of Venice -” Francesco Morosini “Military Naval School and used mainly with training tasks for students Institute.

The event then ended with the prizegiving in the frame of Marina Santelena. To the first 3 classified for each of the four categories and the Overall went the prizes by the prestigious Barovier & Toso Glassware brand. For the second consecutive year, Radio Monte Carlo was the media partner of the event alongside other major brands such as Diadora, Nature’s and Vehrnier.
