New Super Sub of U-Boat Worx earned full safety approval from DNV
U-Boat Worx, the world leader in private manned submersibles, announces that its new Super Sub, the latest addition to the company’s fleet of best-in-class submersibles, has successfully passed all sea trials and testing, earning full safety approval from DNV. The vibrant waters of Curaçao formed the backdrop for this milestone, marking the official arrival of the world’s first high-speed luxury sport submersible entering global operation.
To obtain DNV certification, the highest standard of safety within the maritime industry, DNV surveyors were involved at every stage of construction. Every component, process, and system was independently reviewed to ensure compliance with the strictest requirements in human safety, environmental protection, and vessel integrity. Over the past 20 years, every U-Boat Worx submersible has been delivered with DNV classification, each tailored to its operational profile, including depth rating, passenger capacity, and design performance.
“The Super Sub represents a major leap forward in personal submersible capability,” said Wilbert Beilsma, Commercial Director of U-Boat Worx. “Achieving DNV certification is a testament to the engineering excellence and dedication of our team. We’re entering a new chapter where private owners can explore the ocean at speeds once thought impossible.”
The engineers of the Super Sub, with its 100kW of horizontal thrust, maximum speed of 9 knots, and manoeuvrability rivalling that of dolphins, had to present a plethora of unique engineering solutions to ensure uncompromised safety.
To illustrate: the Super Sub can execute inclines and declines of up to 45 degrees, giving pilots confident maneuverability in steep underwater terrain. A hyper-precise sonar system continuously scans the seabed, ensuring the submarine autonomously adjusts its trajectory and levels out into a parabolic path before reaching depths of 300 meters.
This certification brings us one step closer to seeing the Super Sub inaction,” said Roy Heijdra, Head of Marketing at U-Boat Worx. “It’s not just a submarine, it’s an experience. The moment it dives, accelerates, and carves through the water at 9 knots, people will understand what makes the Super Sub unlike anything on the market.”
With certification complete, the countdown to deployment has begun. Soon, the first Super Sub will embark on its maiden adventures, demonstrating the incredible performance of the fastest personal submersible ever built.
New Super Sub orders are now available both as new build and via wet lease options, making high-speed underwater exploration more accessible than ever for private owners, yacht programs, and expedition operators. Its advanced technology also could be adapted for search-and-rescue missions and surveying large areas thanks to an operational range of 10 nautical miles.
