ARC 2013: Anchors away! for the LAGOON catamarans and Bordeaux 60s taking part in the ARC

Mari_Jose_ARC2013_James_MitchellOn Sunday, 24 November, the boats set off on the great Atlantic crossing!
CNB had six LAGOON catamarans leaving from Las Palmas (with another two starting from Cap Vert for the ARC+), and two Bordeaux 60s.

Some of the CNB team members went to meet the CNB and LAGOON crews to provide technical assistance if needed and hand out polo shirts and flags, as well as inviting them to the traditional party held by both brands on Thursday evening.

It was a great evening, in a charming restaurant overlooking the marina and serving traditional Canarian cuisine. All the CNB and LAGOON crews were there, wearing the polo shirts given to them earlier in the afternoon, and happy to meet up with the other participants, whether sailing mono- or multihull boats!

The crews aboard the CNB and LAGOON boats are made up of either family or friends, often a mixture of both.
For many, this will be their first transatlantic crossing, and they see the ARC as a safe and fun way to cross the ocean.
For others, such as the crews of the Bordeaux 60 Alayat 3, and the Lagoon 560 Blue Ocean, this is the second time they have taken part in the ARC transatlantic crossing, and possibly more often individually!

LAGOON holds two records:
– for the youngest crew member, the little boy with the curly blond hair sailing with the German crew aboard the Lagoon 440 Cat-Cocoloco
– and for the smallest multihull in the race, the Lagoon 380 As you wish, from the BVI. Small, but……….. ?  We’ll soon find out!

As for CNB, the two Bordeaux 60s taking part know each other rather well since they met at sea and have sailed together regularly ever since. Alayat 3, which usually has the family on board, has left the wife and kids at home this time round for a “little trip” among friends.

We’ll be back with the results in a few weeks!
