First ocean-going S.W.A.T.H. – solar yacht

The Swiss company SolarImpact Yacht AG has developed the first ocean-going solar yacht. Their innovative high-tech design concept will be presented for the first time at the Cannes Yachting Festival 2018 in Palais Stand PALAIS089. Visitors to the fair can explore a virtually 3D model here. The solar yacht is energetically almost self-sufficient and with a top speed of over 20 knots also exceptionally fast. The reason for this is the choice of technical components, which together allow a high overall efficiency of the yacht and are optimally controlled by using artificial intelligence (AI). All important systems are highly automated so that the yacht can be maneuvered by just one person.

No noise, no sway, less consumption
The solar yacht was also thought of two other important aspects: heavy seas and high noise. It glides almost silently and not wavering – even over meter-high waves. Because the hull technology is based on the SWATH construction principle: Two torpedo-shaped buoyancy bodies under the water surface carry a platform arranged above the water level. This achieves a physical wave decoupling that reduces the yacht‘s roll and pitch by up to 90 percent. Even in heavy seas, it lies calmly in the water and the annoying sway has an end. This principle also significantly reduces energy consumption. All systems on board use the sun as a primary source of energy. The solar drive is not only environmentally friendly, but also extremely quiet. An important step towards maritime electromobility.

Luxury ans sustainability on over 300 square meters
The 78-foot yacht has three levels totaling 340 square feet, which are as luxurious as they are functional. The primary energy is supplied by the total of 300 square meters of solar space. The integrated range extender ensures that the yacht can set off to new destinations even under prolonged cloud cover.
